Recycling plastic bags into community benches with TREX
Keep Lewisville Beautiful’s “Bags to Benches” program is a partnership with the NexTrex Company to recycle plastic film and keep it out of landfills. NexTrex makes composite decking material and outdoor furniture out of reclaimed wood and plastic film.
For every 500 pounds of plastic film KLB and volunteers collect during a six-month period, KLB will earn and receive a new bench made of recycled materials for our community. With your help, we have been able to collect enough materials to receive and donate benches to the City of Lewisville Parks and Recreation department at these locations:
- Daffodil Park
- Fox Creek Greenbelt
- Valley Ridge Greenbelt
- Palisades Park
Recycling Locations:
KLB currently has one public bin located at City Hall (151 W Church Street, main floor). We do NOT accept plastic bags at our KLB office location. If you are interested in hosting a bin at your location, please contact our office for more details about the program.
Volunteers can also weigh their own bags and drop them off at Winco plastic bag on Main Street. Please make sure to report the weight of the bags, the date they are dropped off, and provide a photo to the KLB office for our community to get credit for them.
